One: Overview
The
Boston Intelligence Group (B.I.G., Inc.) was approached by
PwC Consulting, a then division of PricewaterhouseCoopers,
LLP, in 2001 to provide Learning Services to their Management
Consulting Services, Learning and Professional Development
(LPD) group in Tampa, FL in support of their proprietary Programme
and Project Management (PPM) framework. B.I.G. had a long-term
relationship with PwC Consulting dating back to 1999, when
one of the B.I.G. partners was engaged full time on PwC engagements.
Since then PwC has called on B.I.G.'s expertise in Leadership
Development and Organizational Learning to help enhance and
manage the growth of consultants in the methods of programme
and project management principles utilized on large, multi-million
dollar PwC engagements.
The
Curriculum for training PwC Consultants was already established
when B.I.G. arrived on the scene. Our job was to maintain,
facilitate, coach and enhance the existing training materials
and help to manage the training environment worldwide. We
were also contracted to jointly train PwC consultants on the
global level, in host countries

Two: Strategy
The
B.I.G. team put in place an on-site team member who was both
client leader and lead facilitator and coach for the 2½
year PwC assignment. With the designated team in place, B.I.G.
presented for client approval enhancements to current courseware
and processes in place for adult learning successes in addition
to providing coaching and train-the-trainer program support.
Additionally, our core expertise in communication tactics
and other 'soft-skills' and self-improvement strategies were
brought to the table to enhance the overall course structure
and successful training of the candidates to take on more
project and team leadership responsibilities on global IT
and process improvement engagements.
The
goal of our presence was to provide course content consistency,
provide train-the-trainer activities for new internal PwC
trainers learning to teach the course material and provide
Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in programme and project management,
adult learning theory and application, and 'soft-skills' transfer.

Three: Results
The
results were a large increase in the number of global consultants
trained on the Programme and Project Management Methodology
and an increase in the number of certified internal trainers
to lead future PPM courses over 2½ years. Additionally,
a stronger commitment to communication, stakeholder management
and team management skills was integrated into the course
materials and the finalized version of the global PPM courseware.
